Tips on Painting a House for Beginners

We have all been in that position where we find the house of our dreams. That one house that is perfect for hosting friends, having nice dinner parties or simply suited to raise a family. Such a house is perfect as it is where, like most of us, I would like to spend most of my time at. I have come to the realisation that having a great house that does not match your needs simply does not make that place home. Dull colours, weird and old wallpapers or dirt marks on the wall can be off-putting. Luckily there is a workaround that I have discovered allows a person to not only paint their walls in the colour they want but also allows them not to break the bank. Many might wonder how this is possible. Below are a few tips that I believe make life easier when it comes to painting the house.

Agree On a Color

Back in the day, it was relatively simple to pick out a colour that matched what you wanted as well as the interior. Nowadays there are so many variations of colours that I have lost track. For example, I discovered that white had the following variations- alabaster, ivory, eggshell, pearl, cream and so forth. This makes it difficult to either match the paint in the house or to choose the paint colour you saw in one of the interior design magazines.

The best way to go about this is to visit a local paint shop. They will provide you with a catalogue from which you can choose from. Their staff will also be able to help answer any paint related questions you might have.

Quality Matters

I have discovered that quite a number of people are not willing to pump out lots of money for expensive paint as they believe that it is not worth it. The sad reality is that cheap things are expensive in the long run. If cheap paint is used on walls especially on the exterior it will start to chip off or discolour way quicker than the more expensive paints. I find that talking to reputable sales representatives helps in making informed choices. Not only do they help you choose the right colours, but they will also advise you on the right quality of paint to be used on particular surfaces. They will also stop you from using interior paint on exterior walls as this will end very badly for your walls and your pocket.

Make Sure You Have The Correct Tools

When performing any task, the right tools make life easier for you and makes the job faster and safer. When the wrong tools are used for painting this often leads to poorly executed jobs as well as injuries. I find it necessary to compile a list of all the equipment needed. Once this is done, head over to a hardware store or borrow from a friend.

Items to consider while painting includes the following. Different types of paintbrushes, strong ladders for those hard to reach places as well as protective gear such as goggles, overalls and gloves. You can look up the equipment on the internet, home renovation magazines or get help at your nearest hardware store.

A golden rule to remember with equipment is -QUALITY MATTERS!!

Have Fun Whilst Performing The Task

Painting a room or the whole house can be a daunting task. There is a lot to consider such as the types of strokes and how long to refrain from touching the walls until they are dry. When you view painting as a difficult job, it will take forever to complete and will also be unbearable. The few times that I have painted I have tried to make it a fun exercise.

When you make painting fun it creates long-lasting memories that can always bring a smile to your face. There are various ways of making painting fun. For example, if you are a parent and you want to paint a kiddies room, you could include your child in the process. Having some of their painting will be exciting for both the parents and the child and this creates a strong bond for them.
