Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Home & School Association?
A. You've heard of Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), or Parent Advisory Council (PAC), right? Well, we are similar to these organizations with a different name.

Q. Who is part of this Association?
A. The association is led by elected officers who are parents of KCSS students: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The appointments are made on an annual basis. The remainder of the association includes parents and campus principals. This creates the link between our homes and our children's school, working with and through our administrators.

Q. What is the purpose of the Association?
A. As stated above, it is the link between home and school for both campuses. Some examples of what we do are: plan outings for the students (Trunk or Treat), sponsor lunches and establish an annual recognition program for the teachers, coordinate annual events for the school year (Grandparents Day), request volunteers for homeroom parents and grade level committee-persons, raise funds (Cookie Sales, 50/50 raffle at WIR), purchase needed items for each campus (purchasing window blinds), and/or host special events.

Q. How do I get involved or join?
A. Every family pays $15 in dues each year at orientation so you are already a member; you don't have to "sign up". You can attend the monthly meetings, any meetings, or one meeting. It's totally up to you. If you attend a meeting, it does not mean you have a commitment either. You can attend just to listen, you can choose to work on a committee or a specific task, or you can share an idea or offer a suggestion - whatever your comfort level might be. You may want to participate only as needed, or on a regular basis. Show you are involved by your willingness to receive a phone call. It is up to you to accept or reject a request for help.
