Eligibility policy

The Green Bay Diocesan Board of Education has clearly stated that the primary purpose of Catholic education is to educate and develop the mind, spirit, and body.  It clearly affirms the importance of providing wholesome extra-curricular experiences for students as integral aspects of a total school program.  It is a privilege for students to participate in all extra-curricular activities; it is a privilege to represent the Kaukauna Catholic School System.  It is our hope that students will recognize the importance of being students first and foremost.  Therefore, eligibility to participate in extra-curricular activities will depend on academic effort, attitude, and conduct, both in school and at school functions.

Extra-curricular activities include (but are not limited to) athletics, academic contests which take place outside the regular school day and in which students represent KCSS Middle School, Ski Club, school dances, classroom reward parties, Great America, and other fun non academic school activities both before during and after school hours.  They do NOT include theater, band, choirs, religious activities, and regular academic school field trips, although there may be circumstances when a student would be excluded from other types of field trips. These circumstances would be handled on an individual basis.

Academic Effort:

To be eligible for athletics and extra-curricular activities, students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA), and receive no “F’s” on his/her Mid-Quarter or Quarter Report Card.  The scale is as follows:

                                 A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0

  • Students with a GPA below 2.0 or an “F” on their Mid-Quarter or Quarter Report Card will be given a warning and placed on probation for two weeks.  During this time the student is eligible to play and practice but must be working to improve their GPA. Students will be given two warning periods per year.

  • At the end of the two-week period, the student through daily work, tests, etc. must show proof that their GPA has improved.  If there is no improvement, the student will then be suspended for two weeks from all athletic competitions (practice will still be allowed) and all extra-curricular activities.  The student should compile the needed information and take it to the principal as confirmation of the improvement.

  • At the end of this two-week period, the student must show proof that their GPA has improved.  If there is no improvement, the student will then be suspended from all athletic and extra-curricular activities for the remainder of the quarter.

  • At the end of this quarterly suspension period, the student must show proof that their GPA has improved. If there is no improvement, the student will then be suspended form all athletic and extra-curricular activities for the remainder of the semester.

Behavior/Attitude:

  • A student receiving 10 level one points, 2 level two infractions or 1 level three infraction will be ineligible to participate in all athletic games and extra-curricular activities for two weeks.  They will be expected to participate in practices.  They must attend games with their teams but are not allowed to play in the games.

  • A student who is suspended for any reason will be ineligible for all extracurricular activities, including Great America, as determined by the principal.

Service Hours:

  • Students who do not complete the assigned service hour requirements for the 2006-2007 school year will be ineligible to participate in extra curricular activities for the following year until the service hour requirements have been met.   Eighth grade students need to complete service hours in April in order to attend the trip to Great America.

Attendance:

  • A student who is absent from any part of a school day because of illness will be ineligible to participate in any way that day or evening.

Procedures:

  • A notice will be sent home to the parents of students who are ineligible.

  • Ineligibility begins the day after notification to parents/guardians.  For example, if a student receives a grade report on Tuesday, he/she would begin ineligibility on Wednesday.  If the student receives a grade report/second detention on Friday, he/she would begin probation/suspension on Monday.

  •  Coaches and activity moderators will be notified if students in their groups are ineligible for extra-curricular activities and for what period of time.
