Frequently asked Questions about the Kaukauna Catholic School System

Why should your child attend KCSS?

KCSS provides an education in which you can have faith.  We make a commitment to your child and his/her academic, emotional, spiritual and physical development.  Graduates have traditionally excelled at the high school level, whether attending a public or private high school.  These first educational years are critical to a child's development.  KCSS works with you in educating your child, with care for his/her whole being - mind, heart, soul, body and will - reflecting the timeless tradition of a values-based education.

Tell me more about your Religious Education Program.

Religious instruction happens in a variety of different ways. First, as a Catholic school traditional Catholic-Christian values are integrated into all school curriculum and activities. We incorporate daily classroom prayer, and religion is taught as a subject at every grade level. At the appropriate grade levels, students prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Plus, students in all grade levels will help in the planning and participation at school liturgies.

Do the children attend Mass?

Yes, Mass is just one aspect of how we celebrate our life experiences as a Catholic community through liturgy and prayer. Students in grades K-2 attend Mass Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.  at St. Aloysius Campus. Students in grades 3-8 attend Mass Wednesdays at 8:20 a.m. at the Holy Cross Campus.  Prayer services will be held on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. Liturgies will be held o Holy Days and other special occasions. Liturgies and prayer services will be listed in the weekly newsletter and monthly calendar. You will be notified of ay changes in the weekly newsletter and/or the monthly calendar. All the students fully participate in Mass through singing, responding, and listening to the readings.

Do you accept children from all faiths?

The Kaukauna Catholic School System does not discriminate by sex, race or national origin in the enrollment and participation of students. All students shall be given equal educational opportunities (Diocesan Policy, #5180).

When does registration begin for families new to the school?

Registration begins with the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. This is at the end of January. Registration will then continue until the classrooms are full.

Your child must be five years old by September 1st to enter kindergarten. A child who is six years old by September 1st is eligible to enter 1st grade.

What if I can't afford tuition?

We as a school system want to help any family who needs tuition assistance. It is handled in a confidential manner by having a meeting with either the pastor or the principal.

Are there any other special fees I should know about?

As a parent of a KCSS student you are expected to also be a member of one of the two parishes in the area. This means that you are expected to be an active contributor to the Sunday/Saturday collection at one of the two parishes-St. Katharine Drexel or Holy Cross. Families are required to meet a fundraising goal each year of $145.00. Families are encouraged to join the Home School Association and pay dues of $15. There is also a fee for students to participate in First Communion, Reconciliation, Band, and Athletics. At your discretion, you can contribute to an annual collection for teacher's/staff for Christmas gifts.

What extra-curricular activities does KCSS offer?

KCSS is proud to offer a variety of extra fun choices like: Band, Choir, Altar Servers and Sports. Our sports program is no-cut; every child has the opportunity to play.

What unique programs do you offer?

At the St. Aloysius Campus they have a special program called, "Language In Action." On a monthly basis, each class shares a story or poem in a dramatic way. They have a read-aloud, plays, individual sharing of stories the students wrote and skits. The parents  are informed of the date and time and encouraged to come to see the children perform.

At the end of the school year, KCSS also has a "Field Day." The students are divided up into teams and given a colored t-shirt to wear to show what team they are on. All the grades are mixed together and the students participate in fun field events.

At the Holy Cross Campus they have Buddy Groups. Each class is paired up with a younger class and they do different activities together during the school year.

We have a school newspaper called "The Shining Times." The papers are put together by different classes and then sent weekly over to the St. Aloysius Campus. This helps the younger students see what they will be doing in the years to come. It also helps bring the two campuses closer together.

Do you offer a hot lunch program?

Yes, both St. Aloysius Campus and Holy Cross Campus participate in a healthy lunch program. The program runs everyday that the students are in school a full day. The cost varies monthly, but is around $8.00 a week. The school does offer free and reduced lunch to the students who qualify.
